That’s actually very useful feedback. I’m not sure any of it is sarcastic or satirical. In my estimation, it’s more humorous versus serious. I’m aware that most (all?) writers have a consistent tone from piece to piece. I’m also reminded of a professor at FSU, my alma mater, who said “art is made from broken rules.”
My objective is to inspire thought. Still trying to figure out the best way to do that. I suppose I’m beta-testing which style generates the most interest. So far, my more “professional” pieces are largely ignored. My personal narratives seem to be most popular, irrespective of tone. And my political stuff — well, nobody really gives a damn about that.
I’m heavily influenced by Kurt Vonnegut, in that he used humor to address some truly awful things. At any rate, I appreciate your response.
Maybe I should put a classifier at the top of each piece. Humor, for example. Personal Narrative. Op-Ed. That sort of thing.
