I’ve just read the responses. And I’m stymied. The defensive “not all men” chorus is deafening…and utterly asinine. Do people even read before screaming and shouting to defend their fragile egos?

No it’s not. Not if you understand how rhetoric works and what a logical fallacy is. It’s not asinine to expect a writer avoid using a straw man.
