No it’s not. The CDC number is referring to illicit drug *overdose* deaths. My article is referring to the total number of deaths caused by drugs and alcohol — overdose is unfortunately just one of myriad ways people die from drug use. Examples include drunk driving fatalities, cirrhosis, etc.
