Hi Dr. Donaghue. I’m really enjoying your pieces. A suggestion — you might consider explaining to your readers that something like OCD (which movies get wrong) can often mimic what people term sex addiction — sometimes, even drug addiction. In working with addicts, I’ve begun to wonder if some of the behaviors I see are more OCD and less an SUD. Especially when a client quits meth and takes up conpulsuve shopping, or sex, or gambling, or whatever.

I mention this because I feel your statement about sex addiction as myth is the tiniest bit misleading. I feel strongly that we can develop compulsions for just about anything, including sex, though the culprit is usually some trauma or core belief, as opposed to the act itself. Thoughts?
